Photographing Toddlers
I think no one can agree more quickly than a roomful of mama’s, that family photos often feel stressful. The planning, the prepping, the praying for “just one good photo.” I know how it feels to be in your shoes, because I am in your shoes! I’m sharing with you today, 4 Tips for Photographing Toddlers outdoors or in the studio. As a mama of little toddlers myself, I know that toddlers can be unpredictable at times. And if the thought of getting your kids dressed all nice for portraits has you breaking out in a sweat, fear not, I’ve got you! This family picked out their outfits from the Studio Wardrobe!

Preparing your toddler for your photo session
About a week before your session start talking to your kids about what we will be doing. Kids thrive when they know what is to come, so prepping them in advance helps with knowing what to expect. “Mommy & Daddy and you and the baby are going to get dressed up and take some nice pictures. You know how mama loves to frame photos and hang them on the walls? These are to add to our growing collection! I can’t wait to see how big you have grown and what a great big brother/sister you are!”

Get your children excited for the location
Miami really spoils us with a plethora of beautiful places to take photographs. We could be on beautiful South Beach or South Pointe Park in Miami Beach or an open field and the beauty is never ending. Add your gorgeous family into the mix and we’ve got a framer (okay multiple framers!) in the making.

Your Toddler’s the boss – let’s play!
If there’s one tip that is the most important when it comes to photographing toddlers – it’s this one! There is nothing more your children want than to play with you. And there is no better time than a photo session! When you make it fun for the children, you make it fun for yourself. Throughout your session I am constantly engaging with the kids and moving at a rather quick pace. Peek-a-boo, ring-around-the-rosie, you name it and I have likely done it! The result is a beautiful mix of both posed and candid images.

No matter what, have fun!
Remember at the end of the day the images we want hanging on our walls are the ones that make us feel a certain way. The ones that take us back to that time when our kids were so little. The ones that their personality just shines. If you can smile through it, I won’t deliver “just one good one” I will deliver you a whole entire gallery full.
