Maternity Session FAQ

When is the best time for a maternity session?

Maternity photos are best done between 28-34 weeks (7-8 months). If you are carrying multiples I do suggest a couple of weeks earlier. Most of our clients book maternity sessions so we tend to fill bookings 2 – 3 months prior to due dates for this reason.

I’m not sure I want maternity pictures…

I get it! Your body is going through a lot of changes and while it may not be glamorous – this is such a beautiful time in your life. I hear so many clients express regret for not having professional portraits done. I always remind mothers that these photographs are not just for them, but also for their baby.

I always encourage my maternity clients to take the day to celebrate this chapter in their life with some pampering. Book a prenatal massage that day and make dinner reservation for after your session to celebrate these final days before welcoming this new life into your family.

What to I wear to my maternity session?

I have curated a studio wardrobe in various sizes and hues that are bump friendly. Wardrobe plays an important role in any photo session so I work closely with every family choosing the perfect combination for beautiful portraits for the whole family. This saves you both, time and money leading up to your photography session. Access to the studio wardrobe is included in all sessions. Signature sessions include a session planning and styling appointment.

Can my husband and children be a part of my maternity photos?

Absolutely! The immediate family can be a part of this special moment (fur babies included). Simplicity sessions are just 20 minutes so keep that in mind if your family is larger.

Where do maternity sessions take place?

Maternity sessions can take on location , one hour before the sun sets, or in my natural light studio. The studio is perfect for a more intimate and cozy feel. For a more candid and scenic feel, I suggest on location. If you are not sure about location, we will work together by looking at past sessions and selecting the look and feel you were hoping for your maternity portraits.

How long is a typical maternity session?

Signature sessions are about an hour and you are presented with about 30 images. Simplicity sessions are 20 minutes and are presented with 15 images.

Can I wear more than one outfit?

Of course! Most of my clients choose 2 outfits.

My arms and face are puffy and I am worried I won’t look like myself.

Don’t worry, I totally get this! Part of being a professional portrait photographer is knowing how to pose and use angles to your advantage. I also retouch every image which allows me to accommodate client requests.

Am I able to purchase digital files?

Yes! All of my clients walk away with both, their digitals and tangible heirloom art. Digital images are offered a la carte or on a sliding scale. Many of my clients earn their digitals complimentary with their artwork purchase.

What if I only want a few images?

My simplicity sessions are perfect for Mothers wanting a few images. These sessions offer a shorter studio session (20 minutes) and will be presented with a gallery of 15 images.

Do you offer discounts for booking multiple sessions?

Yes! My most popular option for expecting moms is my First Year Collective which offers savings on the session fee and includes 25 complimentary birth announcements along with a credit at each ordering session towards an album. This is perfect for family’s wanting to document the baby’s first year – from maternity to baby’s 12 months.

How long does it take to get my images back?

Because we hand edit each image and take time to create a personalized in studio viewing and ordering experience, you can expect your images to be ready 2 -3 weeks following your session.
